Urban growth includes dislocation of incompatible uses from the city centre to liminal spaces in metropolitan region. Helsinki country prison was situated in city core until 2002, when the place was closed and reconstructed in the hotel “Katajanokka”. The garden walls, outer walls of the building and the central hallway, protected by the National Board of Antiquities, were preserved, with small modifications, in their original form. In 2007, former prison in Katajanokka, comes to live as a high-class hotel. So, you have freedom to select your cell.
